As a graphic designer I've spent countless hours surfing the internet for
inspiration and ideas. I'm amazed at some of the sites I've seen with
good content and well designed graphics.
On the other hand...
I've also noticed many sites, particularly those of small businesses,
that really leave a lot to be desired. Scrolling banners, cheap animations,
flashing images and poor graphic layouts, that I suppose were actually
meant to attract attention, seem to litter much of the sites in the vast
landscape of technology that we all refer to as the worldwide web.
With an extensive background in print graphics, including offset, flexo,
silkscreen and digital, I wouldn't dream of just "throwing together" a few
graphics for a printed piece and calling it finished, yet in my opinion, so
many of the websites I've seen seem to reflect just that type of thinking.
As a site developer and graphic designer with over 30 years experience,
I know that there is really no such thing as a "jack of all trades". I believe
that every graphic professional, no matter their experience has his or her
own area of expertise, the one thing that they do best! With that thought
in mind, I've enlisted the talents of those whom I believe to be some of the
